Biographical Information
Frank was born in Scarborough in the fourth Quarter of 1895 and first appears in the census returns of 1901. At that time the family were living at 16, Queen Street, Scarborough. His father George Edwin was a solicitor and is described as being a widower.
There were six children, four boys Claude 14, Paul 8, George 6, and Frank 5, and two girls Dorothy 9 and Marjory 3. There was also a niece Katie Alice described as “housekeeper” and Annie M Moment a servant.
By the 1911 census still living in Queen Street the son Claude then aged 24 was also
working as a solicitor. Dorothy was still living in the family home but not working. Frank and Katy aged 15 and 13 respectively were both still at school.
Frank enlisted in Scarborough, he joined the Yorkshire Regiment 10th Battalion. Lance corporal and signalling instructor 235120 Royle. He fought on the Western Front and was killed in action near Arras on 12th of April 1917 aged 21.
He was interred in Boyelles Communal Cemetery Extention ref. 1.B.6. He is also remembered on the family stone in Manor Road Cemetery as well as on Oliver’s mount.
