Biographical Information

Harold was born in Leeds in the first quarter of 1884 to George (a wholesale clothier) and his wife Annie Reason of 5, Springfield Mount Leeds. Two babies were registered with the name Reason that day Douglas and Harold. The 1891 census shows both Douglas and Harold aged 7 years as sons of the house so they were quite obviously twins. George and Annie had 7 sons according to the census and also three servants.

By the 1901 census the family are living at Daisy hill,Rawden in Wharfedale. George although only 55 is retired. Harold is 17 but there is no record of Douglas on the return.

The 1911 census shows the family back in Leeds the address being The Outwood, Horseforth,Leeds. Harold is still at home, single and working as a draper’s assistant.

Harold enlisted in Harrogate joining the Prince of Wales Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) 2nd /5th battalion. He saw action on the Western Front and on the 3rd of May was reported as missing in action.

He is commemorated on the Arras Memmorial panel ref Bay 4. Also in Dean Road cemetery FB 118
