Biographical Information

It has been impossible to positively match this headstone with a person, but he may be John William Palmer, born Darlington 1883, private 18129 (previously in 8th Battalion, then 16th Battalion, then 1st/5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, killed 22/3/1918. Memorial at Poziers Panel 16-18. This person enlisted at Middlesborough and in 1917 suffered from “shell shock”

In loving memory of John Thompson Shields, died May 27th 1910 aged 52 years. Also Mary Jane, beloved wife of the above, died August 16 1943 aged 87 years. Also John William Palmer, nephew of the above, killed in action March 1918. At rest
