Biographical Information
Frank was the son of Mark and Lizzie Newlove, and his father was a draper in Ramshill Road and South Street, Scarborough.
An ex St Martin’s Grammar schoolboy, in the 1911 census he is shown as a “salesman retail drapery” and living in Peckham, London.
He joined Kitchener’s new army in September 1914 and went to France with the Yorkshire Regiment on 9/9/15. He was wounded in the neck during the Battle of Loos and spent time in a Southport hospital. Frank rose to the rank of Sergeant, was given his commission and was then attached to the Highland Light Infantry.
He was killed on 25/6/17 aged 27, having married Dorothy Charlotte only a month earlier. The Scarborough Mercury reported that he was well known in Scarborough football and cricket circles and that several team, including the town team, had benefitted from his services. It said that he was of genial disposition, a good athlete and much liked by a wide circle of friends.
