Biographical Information

Frederick Henry Knowles was born in Sulcoats, Hull and was the son of James and Julia Knowles.

He can be found in the 1911 census aged 23 and working as a grocer. The family had moved to Scarborough and we’re living at 13, Park Avenue. In the second quarter of 1913 Frederick married Lilian B Williford in Scarborough.

He served in the Yorkshire Regiment 10th Battalion and was killed in action in France on 11/04/1917. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, bay 5. Also on Oliver’s Mount War Memorial and in Manor Road Cemetery.
