Biographical Information
Ernest was born in Scarborough, son of John and Zillah. John was a tailor with a shop 9/10 Queen St Scarborough. John later became a mayor and an alderman. Ernest attended Friarage School and then St Martin’s Grammar School, leaving in 1911 to work in his father’s shop. Ernest’s commanding officer wrote to his family saying that he was killed instantly when a shell burst in the trench.
