Biographical Information

Abraham was born at Staithes, the oldest son of Edwards Jackson, an ironstone miner born in 1853 at Loftus, and his wife Sarah Cole. They married in September 1874 at Stailthes and had 9 children 3 of whom died before 1911.

Abraham’s father later had a grocer’s shop at 54 High St, Loftus, with Abraham as his assistant. In 1893 Edward died, leaving his widow to run the business and by 1901 Sarah was running the shop and all the surviving children were living at home. In 1903 Abraham married Ada Teal in Scarborough, and they set up home at 8 Lyell St, where their first child, Edith Annie was born in the November. They later had a son George.

Abraham died on 7th November 1917 and his brother William Ernest also died in the Great War.
