Biographical Information
William was the son of William, a house painter, and Louisa, of 9 Caledonia Street, Scarborough. He attended Gladstone Road infants and junior schools, leaving at the age of 12 to be apprenticed to house painter George Duke of Victoria Road. William was a cornet player with Scarborough Salvation Army Band. He enlisted in September 1914.
