Biographical Information
Charles James was born in Sheffield in the second quarter of 1886. The only other information on him comes from the family gravestone and military records.
His place of residence was given as Bristol although he enlisted in Scarborough. He joined the Yorkshire Regiment “A” company 13th battalion. He served at Gallipoli and Egypt as well as in France and was wounded three times. Medical records show he spent 12 days under treatment in September 1917, ( the illness given being “myalgia”). He was killed in action on the 22nd of March at St. Leger after three and a half years service.
Charles is commemorated on the Arras memorial ( Bay 5) and also in Dean Road Cemetery on the same stone as his great aunt.F55
