Biographical Information

Son of Edgar James (1860-1938) & Lilly Birdsall nee Clarkson who were married on 31st July 1897
Lived at 54 West Street
Had a long association with South Cliff Congregational Church in Ramshill Road
Edgar James Birdsall (Father) was a well known Solicitor in Scarborough practicing at Bank Chambers 2 Huntriss Row
Lilly Birdsall became a Justice of the Peace
Geoffrey Birdsall – Educated at Bootham School York from the age of 11 remaining there until 1917 when he enlisted at Scarborough into the Territorial Force 1st/28th (County of London)Battalion of the London Regiment (Artists Rifles)
Enlisted to train as an officer but attached to the 63rd Royal Naval Division before he could finish his training.
Injured 16th June 1918 in an enemy artillery bombardment and evacuated to the 4th casualty clearing station located near to the Somme village of Pernois where he died on 17th June 1918.
Buried at Pernois British Cemetery Halloy-Les-Pernois Section 2 Row B Grave 10
