Biographical Information

George was born in Edinburgh in 1884 to parents Thomas and Elizabeth Barker (nee Snow). The 1891 census shows the family of two girls and three boys living at 46, Quay Street. George was aged 7 years at this count. Thomas, the father was listed as being a veterinary student, he died in 1900.

George married Violet M Jones in 1913 ( last quarter) in Wharfedale.

Enlisting in Scarborough, George served in the Royal Horse Artillery on the Western Front.

Hospital records show that on 7th November 1917 he was admitted to hospital from the casualty clearing station with “ bronchitis.”on the 29th of that same month, he was killed in action.
